Chelsea were looking to give departing manager Guus Hiddink the prefect send off and to win some silverware after a couple of barren years. Meanwhile, Everton were hoping to win their first trophy since 1995. The match that followed lived up to all expectations. A shell shocked Chelsea slowly worked their way back into the match and deservedly equalised midway through the match courtesy of a powerful header from Didier Drogba. Chelsea continued to dominate their Merseyside rivals – although the Toffees had chances of their own – so it came as no surprise when they took the lead. A wonderful left foot strike from Frank Lampard was worthy of winning any match and it proved to be the decisive goal as the Blues held on to record a memorable victory.
